Recording Your 2015 Goals

Hello friends and fellow craftophiles, Carson here. I want to share with you one of my newest crafting passions, art journaling. I've been curious about art journaling for years and was always turned off by the feeling that my style, simply wasn't artsy enough. I like patterned paper, I swoon over stickers, I've never used Gesso, and because of these things I thought I wasn't allowed to art journal.

Well, I now know how silly that sounds and I'm here to tell you the only thing you ever need to know about art journaling... THERE ARE NO RULES!

Sorry about the yelling, I just get so excited about the freedom of it all that I get a little carried away. Now hopefully you're intrigued, but you may not know where to start. Well let me help you with that. Follow these steps and you'll be well on your way.

1. Choose your journal, (I use a mini three ring binder, which allows me to manipulate the pages more than a bound book would) but whichever journal feels good and makes you want to create will absolutely work.

2. Find a technique, a product, a feeling or a quote that moves you, and get it onto the page, go from there.

3. Fight the urge to make it perfect, in fact, strive to make it messy.

4. Try new things.

When I sat down to compose my goals page, I had a prompt (craft goals) and desk full of gorgeous Chickaniddy Supplies. From there I just started putting things together. I experimented with leaving the ends of my thread loose, and stitching that zig zag at the bottom of the page, two things I've never done before. I didn't throw away my vellum when I made mistakes with my vintage typewriter. I kept it simple, goal focused and now I have something to look back on throughout the year to remind me to always keep improving and experimenting.

I love your advice about not being perfect and getting messy with your work. Very inspirational. And I love the colour scheme you went with.
