Valentine’s Day

Hello there, friends!  Missy here with you today.  I am so excited to share my layout with you today!  This month, a few of us got to search for our own inspiration image on Pinterest.  I came across this really fun image of squares.  I really loved the placement of the squares and the lines going through them.  I knew I wanted to create a Valentine layout about my sweet daughter, so I recreated this design in my own style.

Here is what I came up with.  When I think of Valentines, I think of red and pink and lots of love.  I think it is the perfect celebration of my sweet Paige...our year-round Valentine girl.  Both of our birthdays are this month 🙂  I did minimal mixed media work on this...just a tad bit of gesso on either side of the photo cluster with a little bit of watercolors and gelatos.

Here are a few steps I took in creating this page:

1.  I chose one of my all-time favorite papers in all of the Chickaniddy collections...the Hay Ride patterned paper!  This denim is amazing, and it makes a fabulous background.  I knew all the reds and pinks would pop right off of this.

2.  Next, I went through all the collections that contained red and pink elements...Twirly Girly, Scrumptious and Jolly Good.  I selected several patterned papers with different shades of red and pink and used various sized square punches to make the shapes.

Here are few of the papers I used:

Grandma's Quilt from Twirly Girly

Autumn Haze from Scrumptious

Happy New Year from Jolly Good

Jolly Good

3.  Once I had all my squares punched, I arranged them in my own version of the grid.  I stitched through them with my sewing machine and added my mixed media.

4.  I chose more patterned papers to layer behind my photo and used pop dots to raise it up.  I also searched all of the stickers, die cuts, brads and enamel dots to add in here and there.

5.  Lastly, I added my title and some tangled thread.  I used some of the Twirly Girly alpha stickers combined with a word cut on my Cameo.

You should definitely do a Pinterest search for design ideas.  I would've probably never gotten the idea for this layout without seeing that inspiration photo first!  And check all of your Chickaniddy stash for reds and pinks to create something LOVEly!

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great day!

Hello and happy Valentine's Day! It's Meghann here with you, and although today is a day to share our love for other people, I want you to also remember to show a little love to the most important person in your life- YOURSELF!
I created this page to do just that, and the title serves as a special reminder.

For this layout, I used a mixture of four different collections, which just proves how versatile they are!

When I first envisioned this layout, I knew I wanted to use the quote as my title with a mixture of fonts, which can be a tricky task. Here are a few pointers to mixing fonts, whether in stickers or die-cuts, on your next project:
1) Don't use too many fonts. Three is the magic number, but as you can see on my layout, you can use more! On this layout, I tried to keep it from being too chaotic by carrying one font throughout the title (the green serif sticker) and by using only one script font.
2) Contrast is equally as important on fonts as it is in color! Using a mix of serif and sans-serif fonts, as well as a highly contrasting font like a script make each choice seem intentional. Having a contrast in different sizes is also important. You wouldn't want the word 'in' on this layout to be larger than the word 'approval.'

3) Be careful with spacing your letters and words. If they are spaced too close or too far apart, it can make a big impact on how well your fonts look together.
4) Think about the 'mood' of the font and choose wisely. My title above would have looked completely different had I used a script font for the word 'trade' instead of 'authenticity.' I chose the handwritten script for that word because it felt the most personal on the title. A serif can seem very rigid, which is why I used it for the word 'approval.' Think about how a font comes across in terms of its personality.

In addition to using an inspirational quote for my title, I wrote a little pep talk to myself on a journaling card and tucked it behind my photo. The entire layout serves as a reminder for me to love myself for who I am, not what others want me to be.

I hope these tips help you mix fonts on your next layout! Be sure to share a little love with yourself today! Happy Valentine's Day!

Good morning! Erin here with a whimsical card, perfect for Valentine's Day. I used a selection of products from one of Chickaniddy's first collections, Date Night.

Supplies used: Date Night-Love Letters DN14OS04. Date Night Illustrations Stickers DN14EB02. Date Night Enamel Hearts DN14EB07. Date Night Alpha Stickers DN14EB01. Date Night Brads DN14EB06. Date Night Mini Sticker Sentiments DN14EB05.

I love the beautiful butterfly sticker on the Illustrations Sticker sheet and I used foam dots to give it more dimension. This aqua and navy color combination is nontraditional for Valentine's Day, but the big butterfly combined with the sweet sentiment make it perfect for Valentine's Day or for a special friend.

Erin Taylor Chickaniddy Crafts Valentine's Day Card
Here's how I created my card:
1. Trim patterned paper to fit A2 card base. Die cut white cardstock and adhere to card base.
2. Adhere label stickers, "I Like You" sticker, and enamel hearts to card base.
3. Add enamel dots to bottom on butterfly sticker. Poke a hole in the middle of the butterfly sticker and add brad. Adhere to card.
4. Add shimmer to butterfly wings with Spica glitter pen.

I trimmed the "grateful for you" banner by hand (it was on the back of the New Harvest patterned paper.

While all of the Chickaniddy employees are off enjoying the weekend, I am home sick with my little Calvin. Poor Guy has the beginning of bronchitis. So I thought I would share this card by Heidi Van Laar. It's the cutest card and perfect for February. I personally am so over the heavy pink and red color combos, so this card is a fresh take on L.O.V.E. Here is what Heidi said about her card:

"Hi there, Heidi Van Laar here with a sweet little love card created with the Date Night collection. Date Night is such a complete collection that you can easily make a card using very little in the way of additional tools or supplies. Chickaniddy's fabulous Silver Surfer foil paper, some plain old white cardstock and foam tape were the only additions I made here, and the only tools I used beyond the basic cutter and glue were a small circle punch and a corner easy"!

"I love that the Silver Surfer foil paper is so versatile. Here I used it with a circle punch to help highlight an Enamel Heart. I absolutely LOVE these tiny Enamel Hearts! Here I paired them with a couple of Sticker Banners. They're so sweet, I could almost eat them"!

Hey everyone and good day! Can you tell I'm in the best mood? Why? Heidi Sonboul Donut You Know I Love You (Medium)

Happy Valentine's Day to you all!

To celebrate this day of romance and love, I have 3 sweet treats for you. First is this card that I made for CHA. It's using the Twirly Girly collection and right in the middle of the card is this yummy donut. I mean... who doesn't love a donut... right?! The second treat is an audio interview I was asked to do. I had the best time chatting with Renee from Scrap Owl. She asked me a lot of fun questions and had a good laugh or two. Here is the link to the interview. Hint... Hint...I gave a lot of insider scoop and it's about 45 minutes long, but worth the time.

I'm back today with a trendy card to share and this time it's from Heidi Van Laar. Here is what she had to say about it.

"I love so much that Chickaniddy included matching stamps as part of their collections! Lemme tell you these stamps are such a pleasure to work with too. I know we have all probably had the displeasure of working with the substandard stamps that come with some scrapbook collections, not so with these guys. They are Q-U-A-L-I-T-Y, comparable to any of the industry leaders and the images are so fun! Just look at the big ole diamond ring I created here...what girl wouldn't want that? 😉 What's really fun about this image is that it's actually two. The diamond and ring are separate which gives you so many more options! Here I stamped them together, embossed them in silver, colored with marker, then cut the image out".

"Though I wanted my diamond ring to be the star of this card, I couldn't resist adding a few Date Night Brads. That flower...LOVE! Creating this little cluster was so easy and little details like this just make me happy"!

Don't you just love that diamond?! Can I have one that size in real life? lol
