To create this layout I used my number one favorite Chickaniddy paper--Autumn Haze from Scrumptious! I love the ombre watercolor look, and the color scheme is just stunning.
1. To make this layout, I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out the Heart Stripe Background from the Silhouette Store. I glued the cut file onto white cardstock. To give the layout some dimension, I used foam dots on some of the hearts so they stood up a bit,
2. Next, I cut out various sized hearts using more patterned paper from the Scrumptious collection. I arranged them in the middle of the page, making sure to mix up patterns and sizes as much as possible.
3. Once the hearts were placed, I added my photo in the middle, and embellished with enamel stars and wood veneer hearts.
4, Finally, I added my title using stickers and the word "sweet" die-cut from the fabulous gold foil paper!
This layout was so simple and quick to make, but the die-cut background and hearts make it look more involved than it was! I love how die-cuts can really enhance your layouts and make them even more special, Thanks for joining me!
Hey there, friends! Missy here today. I'm so excited to be kicking off a fun month of crafty trends we all know and love. The Craft Team will be sharing a new trend each day this month, so keep checking back and see what each day has in store!
The trend I'm playing with today is Mixed Media. I absolutely love playing with inks, paints, modeling paste, gesso...anything wet and messy! With Spring coming soon, I decided to create a super bright and bold layout. I love creating my own backgrounds. To do this, I used a stencil, modeling paste, a stamp, distress inks and water. It looks complicated, but really it isn't.
Supplies Used: Twirly Girly--Sentiments Mini Stickers TG14EB05, Tags Mini Stickers TG14EB04, Enamel Hearts TG14EB07, Piggy Tails TG140S12; Scrumptious--Home Sweet Home SC140S02, New Harvest SC140S10, Autumn Haze SC140S06, Check Please SC140S09, Mini Stickers SC14EB06, Sentiments Mini Stickers SC14EB07, Journal Tags SC14EB03, Sticker Sheet SC14EB02, Die Cut Tags SC14EB04, Mini Brads SC14EB08; Jolly Good--Alpha Stickers JG14EB02, Banners Mini Stickers JG14EB05, Mini Brads JG14EB08, Snow Play JG140S09, Happy New Year JG140S12; Other--cardstock, Liquitex Gesso, Golden Modeling Paste, Tim Holtz Distress Inks, Shimmerz Coloringz, Brother Sewing Machine, Coats Thread, Ranger Archival Ink, October Afternoon Date Stamp, Sharpie Pen, pop dots, washi tape
Here's how I created this background.
1. After coating my entire page with clear gesso, I used a palette knife to smudge white gesso over a triangle stencil. After letting that dry, I took the banner shaped stamp from the Scrumptious collection and used various colors of distress inks to stamp it in a rainbow color scheme.
Since distress inks react and blend with water, I knew these would be the best to use so I could create a watercolor effect.
2. After stamping the shapes, I simply dabbed my finger into some water and started smudging a little. I love that you can see some of the triangles and some of them blend in to the background. I love this look, so I kept smudging.
3. After the cardstock dried, I started going through my Chickaniddy collections to choose papers and embellishments that coordinated with all of those bright colors. I pulled items from Scrumptious, Jolly Good and Twirly Girly. I wanted to continue the rainbow effect at the bottom, so I tried to include something of each color...die cuts, brads, stickers and stitching.
4. I continued adding embellishments and choosing papers to layer under my photo. Here a few of the pieces I pulled from:
5. I punched some hearts from patterned papers and stitched through them...I love creating little clusters like this. It allows for another grouping of all the rainbow colors.
6. Finally, I added some machine stitching in the bold turquoise color. Here you can really see the bold orange and how the triangles create such great texture and interest.
I hope this inspires you to give Mixed Media a try. It's really fun, and it's always an experiment...you never know what your background is going to look like until you start playing around with different mediums. There are different types of paints and inks to play with...even gelatos!
Thanks so much for stopping by, and have a great day!
I think the cutest thing in the world may just be my little girl's pigtails. I just adore her crazy curls! I thought it would be fun to document my love for her locks in a layout. My favorite part of any layout is the words, so making the title the star of the show seemed like a fantastic idea, too!
From Scrumptious: Autumn Haze paper SC14OS06, Check Please paper SC14OS09. From Twirly Girly: Birthday Girl paper TG14OS02, Piggy Tails paper (of course!) TG14OS12, Rosy Posy paper TG14OS01, Never Grow Up TG14OS11, Sticker Sheet TG14EB02, Enamel Hearts TG14EB07, Brads TG14EB06.
1. I started by cutting a title with my Silhouette Cameo machine.
2. Next, I began tracing the letters onto patterned papers. I "bubble cut" around the letters, then adhered them to the back of my layout with washi tape.
TIP #1: Be thoughtful about how you are placing the patterned paper. For example, I made sure that a rose was centered in the "o" and the "a". For the letter "i's", I made sure that my stripes were horizontal and that the top of each letter began with a yellow stripe for added contrast.
TIP #2: When you are finished backing all the letters with patterned paper, adhere the layout to another piece of cardstock. This makes it easy to add to page protectors and gives you peace of mind that the washi tape won't eventually fail.
3. On the other triangle half of my page, I added patterned paper, my photos, and some journaling.
4. Because I used so many patterns, I kept the embellishments simple: a sticker, some enamel hearts, and some metal flower brads.
Whether you're scrapping your love for your significant other or something silly like hair, give your words more impact with a large title. Have fun with patterned papers, and try an angle. I'm sure your page will be fun to look at and fun to create!
When I was designing my card, I wanted a row of three hearts, each with a different embellishment on top. I used a heart punch on three colors of cardstock, then added a doily, stickers, enamel hearts, a brad, and a button and twine on top of each heart.
Here's a step by step on how to create this card:
1. Trim Twirly Girl Piggy Tails paper (mini hearts) down to A2 card size. Trim yellow diagonals and adhere on top.
2. Die cut scalloped border from vellum and adhere to card with vellum adhesive.
3. Punch hearts from cardstock and apply embellishments.
4. Adhere label stickers to card. Apply sentiment sticker and enamel hearts.
Hello there, friends! Missy here with you today. I am so excited to share my layout with you today! This month, a few of us got to search for our own inspiration image on Pinterest. I came across this really fun image of squares. I really loved the placement of the squares and the lines going through them. I knew I wanted to create a Valentine layout about my sweet daughter, so I recreated this design in my own style.
Here is what I came up with. When I think of Valentines, I think of red and pink and lots of love. I think it is the perfect celebration of my sweet Paige...our year-round Valentine girl. Both of our birthdays are this month 🙂 I did minimal mixed media work on this...just a tad bit of gesso on either side of the photo cluster with a little bit of watercolors and gelatos.
Supplies Used: Scrumptious - Hay Ride SC140S05, Check Please SC140S09, Autumn Haze SC140S06, New Harvest SC140S10, Home Sweet Home SC140S02, Sticker Sheet SC14EB02; Jolly Good - Deck the Halls JG140S06, Snow Play JG140S09 Happy New Year JG140S12, Christmas Eve JG140S01, Die Cut Tags JG14EB04, Journal Tags JG14EB03, Mini Sticker Banners JG14EB05, Clear Stamps JG14ST02; Twirly Girly - Birthday Girl TG140S02, Grandma's Quilt TG140S10, Sticker Sheet TG14EB02, Enamel Hearts TG14EB08, Mini Sticker Sentiments TG14EB05, Mini Sticker Banners TG14EB03, Alpha Stickers TG14EB01, Brads TG14EB06; Other - Liquitex Gesso, Artist's Loft Watercolors, Faber Castell Gelatos, Brother Sewing Machine, Coats Thread, cardstock, October Afternoon date roller stamp, Ranger Archival Ink, Heidi Swapp Color Shine, Silhouette die cut, Silhouette Cameo, Uniball Signo Pen.
Here are a few steps I took in creating this page:
1. I chose one of my all-time favorite papers in all of the Chickaniddy collections...the Hay Ride patterned paper! This denim is amazing, and it makes a fabulous background. I knew all the reds and pinks would pop right off of this.
2. Next, I went through all the collections that contained red and pink elements...Twirly Girly, Scrumptious and Jolly Good. I selected several patterned papers with different shades of red and pink and used various sized square punches to make the shapes.
Here are few of the papers I used:
Grandma's Quilt from Twirly Girly
Autumn Haze from Scrumptious
Happy New Year from Jolly Good
3. Once I had all my squares punched, I arranged them in my own version of the grid. I stitched through them with my sewing machine and added my mixed media.
4. I chose more patterned papers to layer behind my photo and used pop dots to raise it up. I also searched all of the stickers, die cuts, brads and enamel dots to add in here and there.
5. Lastly, I added my title and some tangled thread. I used some of the Twirly Girly alpha stickers combined with a word cut on my Cameo.
You should definitely do a Pinterest search for design ideas. I would've probably never gotten the idea for this layout without seeing that inspiration photo first! And check all of your Chickaniddy stash for reds and pinks to create something LOVEly!
Hi! Kathy here. I'm super excited to share with you my very first Chickaniddy project and post using the beautiful Date Night collection.
Supplies: Paper (DN140S04; DN140S05; DN140S06; DN140S07; DN140S11)
Silver Foil Paper (CN14SP002) Stickers (DN14EB02) Enamel Hearts (DN14EB07)
The hubs and I will be celebrating our 22nd wedding anniversary this April and one of the things that has kept our relationship strong over the years is having regular date nights! This collection is perfect for preserving those memories and for one of my favorite crafts, card making!
One of my favorite patterned papers in the Date Night collection is Dance Party. I adore all those cute couples and the ladies' colorful dresses!
Another Chickaniddy item I can't resist is the foil paper! Ooh la la is it ever beautiful!
To create die cut accents that use more than one die, I arrange the dies on a magnetic sheet so they stay in place. Once I have my dies set up the way I want, I adhere a piece of washi over them so I can easily transfer them to my die cut machine.
When layering lots of die cuts I use foam mounting tape to adhere each piece which gives the layers dimension.
Hi everyone, Allie here! I'm absolutely thrilled to be sharing my first Chickaniddy layout with you today! I love the colors and theme of the Date Night collection and was so excited to get creating with it! While this collection is incredibly versatile, my favorite thing to scrap is my handsome husband so I couldn't resist doing a love themed layout. The patterns and colors are lovely and I wanted to highlight as many as possible, so I decided to do a quilt type design.
Chickaniddy Supplies: Paper (Awesome Blossom (DN140S01), A Girl's Best Friend (DN140S06), Backwoods Lovin'(DN140S06), Cutest Couple (DN140S05), Dance Party (DC140S11), Dance School (DN140S02), Love Letters (DN140S04), Plaid is Rad (DN140S12), Together is Better (DN140S09), Wallflower (DN140S08), Brads (DN14EB06 ), Stickers (Mini Sticker Sentiments (DN14EB05), Mini Sticker Tags (DN14EB04), Illustration Stickers (DN14EB04)), Other: Heidi Swapp Color Shine Mist in White, DMC Embroidery Floss in 3851
The quilt design was surprisingly simple to make! I cut a heart from my Silhouette Cameo and stitched around the design. I traced the heart onto a piece of scrap paper and ran adhesive all over it. I punched lots of squares from various Date Night papers, then cut them in half from point to point to create isosceles triangles. I placed four triangles with the center points facing inward to make a square, then repeated the pattern until the entire heart was covered. Easy!
The woodgrain paper might be my new favorite background pattern of all time!
I used some Date Night scraps as layering pieces and a cut out from Plaid is Rad for a title. The gorgeous Brads added a perfect finishing touch! I love that cute flower! I am absolutely crazy about this collection and I'm looking forward to creating more layouts with it. Thank you for stopping by and letting me gush about this cute collection!
While all of the Chickaniddy employees are off enjoying the weekend, I am home sick with my little Calvin. Poor Guy has the beginning of bronchitis. So I thought I would share this card by Heidi Van Laar. It's the cutest card and perfect for February. I personally am so over the heavy pink and red color combos, so this card is a fresh take on L.O.V.E. Here is what Heidi said about her card:
"Hi there, Heidi Van Laar here with a sweet little love card created with the Date Night collection. Date Night is such a complete collection that you can easily make a card using very little in the way of additional tools or supplies. Chickaniddy's fabulous Silver Surfer foil paper, some plain old white cardstock and foam tape were the only additions I made here, and the only tools I used beyond the basic cutter and glue were a small circle punch and a corner rounder...so easy"!
Supplies: Paper (Date Night A Girl's Best Friend, Date Night Backwoods Lovin, Date Night Wallflower, Date Night 6x6 pad, Date Night Illustration Stickers, Date Night Enamel Hearts, Date Night Mini Sticker Banners, Date Night Alpha Stickers), Silver Surfer, Other: corner rounder, 1/2" circle punch, white cardstock, foam tape
"I love that the Silver Surfer foil paper is so versatile. Here I used it with a circle punch to help highlight an Enamel Heart. I absolutely LOVE these tiny Enamel Hearts! Here I paired them with a couple of Sticker Banners. They're so sweet, I could almost eat them"!
Hey everyone and good day! Can you tell I'm in the best mood? Why? Well... after going through TONS of applications we finally narrowed it down and last week we sent out all of the acceptances letters. I can now say that we officially have a Chickaniddy Craft Team! Tomorrow we will share the new team with you and for those that didn't get an acceptance letter, please now that we had the hardest time narrowing down the talent and that we really do appreciate you applying. If you didn't make it this time, there is always this coming fall. We hope you come back and try out then.
Last week I received this layout from Amy Heller and it's clean, but colorful look makes me so happy. I LOVE all the hearts, which is perfect for this month and scrapping those Valentine's Day photos.
Here is a close up of it and you can see that the under paper is our Gold Foil Paper. It's a clean look that really shines.
To celebrate this day of romance and love, I have 3 sweet treats for you. First is this card that I made for CHA. It's using the Twirly Girly collection and right in the middle of the card is this yummy donut. I mean... who doesn't love a donut... right?! The second treat is an audio interview I was asked to do. I had the best time chatting with Renee from Scrap Owl. She asked me a lot of fun questions and had a good laugh or two. Here is the link to the interview. Hint... Hint...I gave a lot of insider scoop and it's about 45 minutes long, but worth the time.
The third sweet treat is that we are doing 2 GIVEAWAYS today! The first giveaway is with the Scrap Owl. Leave a comments here, follow our site (on the right side bar) and visit their site. Once you've done all those things, you will be entered to win this Twirly Girly Collection kit.
The second giveaway is to celebrate Valentine's Day and romance in the air. Again... leave a comments here and follow our site (on the right side bar). Once you've done all those things, you will be entered to win this Date Night Collection kit. You will have now until Monday to do so, so don't wait. On Tuesday I'll will announce our 2 lucky winners.
I hope you enjoy the interview and Thanks Renee for having Chickaniddy!
Today will be a tough day for Pam and I as we go through all of the applications. We had about 200 ladies apply and there is so much talent to choose from. The process should take about a week and the emails for acceptances will go out on Friday. We wish you all the best of luck and want to thank you all for applying. It means so much to us!
Now let's turn the time over to my girl Teri for today's card project... which I adore!
"Hi everyone! Teri Anderson here and I'm excited to bring you a fun little card I made with Chickaniddy's Date Night collection. Boy, I sure love this collection. From all the fun patterns to the colors, it's just a great collection. I'm really drawn to it and I want to use the papers and embellishments in this collection to make just about everything right now".
"One of my favorite parts of the Date Night collection is the 6x6 paper pad. In fact, all the papers I used on this card are from the paper pad. I love how the patterns are in a smaller size so they work well for cards! I thought it would be good to mix a bunch of different embellishments from the collection together: brads + stickers + some of Chickaniddy's awesome Enamel Heart Stickers. They really do look like candy, don't you think"?
"Also, you'll see three half silver circles on my card. Well, I created those using the Foil paper. I just took a circle punch, cut a few circles and set them on the card! Easy peasy"!
Today I have a really fun treat for you. Our dear coordinator Pam has put together an amazingly beautiful cut file and we are sharing it on our blog for free! So let's get right to it.
"Hi there. It's Pam here sharing a heart layout and digital cutting files so you can use this template as well. When was the last time you did a layout with hearts on it? I use them quite often as they are one of my favorite shapes.
On my page below you will see a technique that I love to do on my pages. I like to make shapes pop off the page by putting a negative border around them. The Twirly Girly collection by Chickaniddy was absolutely perfect for this page. The patterns are so versatile and it was actually hard to choose which pattern would go in each heart. Below my layout you will be able to download the cutting files in JPEG, SVG, and STUDIO. Studio is for your Silhoutte. Hope you enjoy"!!
